Maumee's Wagener Makes It Official, Signs With Owens Men's Soccer

Toledo, Ohio---Alex Wagener, a forward from Maumee High School in Maumee, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to play men's soccer at Owens Community College next year.

Wagener was a member of the soccer team at NCAA Division II Notre Dame College last year, and he will be a sophomore for Owens this coming fall.

While at Maumee, Wagener was a three-time All-Ohio player. He also was a four-time All-Northern Lakes League and All-District selectiion.

"Alex is a strong and aggressive attack oriented forward," said Owens head men's soccer coach Art Johnson, who has recorded 207 wins in 18 years at Owens. "His ability to create scoring chances and keep his teammates involved is a plus. "The maturity he brings to the field will help us excel with the abundance of young, incoming players this year."

Wagener becomes the first student-athlete signed by Johnson for the 2016-17 recruiting class.

Notes

The Owens men's soccer team finished 14-7-2 this past fall and advanced to the Region XII championship game before falling in penalty kicks to Schoolcraft College.
