2009-10: Rice played in 35 games last season. In 71 at bats, she had 15 hits, four doubles, 10 RBIs, three runs and five walks, while finishing with a .211 batting average and a .280 on base percentage. She lists her home run in last year's regional tournament as her greatest personal sports thrill.

Prior to Owens: Rice was a three-time Honorable Mention All-Toledo City League player at Clay, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and was a four-year honor roll student. She played for coach Brenda Radabaugh at Clay.

Personal: Matea is the daughter of Frederick and Marlene Rice. She is a pre-dental hygiene transfer major at Owens.
