Iacoangeli Runs Wild As No. 15 Express Sweep DH From OCCAC Foe Sinclair

Toledo, OH---Melanie Iacoangeli had five stolen bases, while also going 4-for-6 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk as the No. 15 Express softball team swept a pair of games against OCCAC foe Sinclair Community College at home today.

Game 1: Owens 12 Sinclair 1 (Five Innings)

Six different hitters had two hits apiece as the Express rolled to a 12-1 victory in today's first game.

Iacoangeli, Olivia Reeder, Amanda Sinay, Mareshah Scott, Jaylee Glad and Hannah Shank each picked up two hits, while Shank, Scott and Katie Butler each added two runs. Iacoangeli, Reeder and Glad each had two RBIs, as well.

The Tartan Pride took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Express scored three times in the bottom half. Butler had an RBI groundout, Alyssa Lassey had an RBI double and Scott had an infield RBI single.

In the second, Reeder and Iacoangeli each added RBI singles to make it 5-1. Then, in the third, Glad had a two-run single, while Reeder and Iacoangeli each added RBI singles. Another run scored while Shank got caught in a rundown.

In the fourth, Scott had an RBI single, and she later scored when Sinclair's catcher threw wild to third on her stolen base.

Katilyn Turski picked up the complete game victory as she allowed only four hits, one run (zero earned) and zero walks while striking out four.

Nicole Chesley took the loss for Sinclair. She allowed eight hits, seven runs (four earned) and two walks in two innings of work. Sierra Breeze threw the other two innings, while allowing seven hits, five runs (three earned) and zero walks. Each pitcher struck out one batter.

Aside from Iacoangeli's two stolen bases, Scott (2), Sinay and Shank added the other four stolen bases.

Game 2: Owens 7 Sinclair 1 

The second game was closer, but the Express prevailed 7-1 despite failing to capitalize on more scoring opportunities.

The Express scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take control early. In the first, Reeder and Iacoangeli were on first and third when Reeder stole second and the throw sailed wide - allowing Iacoangeli to score. Reeder would later score on a passed ball.

In the second, the Express scored another run when an errant throw by Sinclair's third baseman sailed wide of first. Sinay followed with an RBI groundout.

The Tartan Pride got a run back in the fourth on a double play groundout where the runner scored from third.

In the fifth, Glad singled to the pitcher, but April DeCant, who was pinch running, scored on the play due to a fielding error when Sinclair tried to pick her off third. 

The Express added their final two runs in the sixth when Rockman had an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Scott.

Turski, once again, went the distance for the Express while allowing seven hits, one run (zero earned) and zero walks in her seven innings. She struck out one.

Sierra Marrs took the loss for Sinclair. She allowed 12 hits, seven runs and four walks in six innings. She struck out six.

Iacoangeli, Emily Rockman, Scott and Shank each had two hits apiece, while Sinay, Rockman and Scott had the team's three RBIs.

The Express left 10 runners on base.

Iacoangeli had three more stolen bases, while Reeder, Sinay, Scott, Glad and Shank each added one apiece. 

Notes

The Express improved to 15-9 overall this year and 3-1 in the OCCAC.

This was the first meeting between the two teams. This is Sinclair's first year with a softball program.

Iacoangeli, with her five steals today, increased her team-high total to 27, while Scott has 17 and Sinay has 11. Iacoangeli also has a team-high 27 runs, while her and Scott each have the team-high in hits with 34. 

Reeder remains in the team lead with RBIs at 21, while Rockman has 20. Rockman has the team lead in doubles with 10. 

Turski is now 11-4 this year. She has pitched 104.2 of the team's 155 innings. She leads the staff with 62 strikeouts.

Cherry made her season debut today.
