Toledo, Ohio---Emily Rockman (Springfield/Holland, Ohio), a sophomore first baseman for the Owens Community College softball team, signed with University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) tonight in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC).
"We are really excited about Emily's offensive skills," said UNOH head softball coach Tracy Coffman. "We think she'll come in and make an immediate impact in our lineup."
Rockman, who will join the Racers next year, had an impressive freshman year and is off to another solid start this year.
After six games during the spring trip, Rockman is hitting 9-for-20 (.450) with nine RBIs, eight runs, two doubles, one triple, two walks and one stolen base.
Last year, while playing first base, third base and shortstop, Rockman finished fourth on the team in hitting. She went 56-for-142 (.394) with 20 runs, 17 doubles, a team-high five home runs and a team-high 36 RBIs.
Rockman is a 2012 graduate of Springfield High School, where she was a four-time First Team All-NLL and First Team All-District selection. She was twice named the team's offensive player of the year and helped lead the team to a pair of NLL championships.
UNOH, which is in its first year as an NAIA program, is off to a 6-0 start. They are led by Coffman, a first-year head coach.
Meanwhile, the Express softball team is also off to a 6-0 start this year.
