Toledo, Ohio---Brittany George (Elmwood/Wayne, Ohio) has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) softball player of the week.

The freshman shortstop for the Owens Community College softball team went 7-for-14 (.500) last week over six games. She scored five runs, had one double, one triple and two home runs. She added five RBIs, three walks and one stolen base.

George is hitting a team-high .507 this year (38-for-75) with 31 runs, 10 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 28 RBIs. She has struck out only twice all year while drawing 12 walks. She's also 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

The award is a first this year for George, while her teammate, Tori Weidinger (Whitmer/Toledo, Ohio) has won the award the previous two weeks (April 6, April 13).

The Express softball team (19-7, 9-1 OCCAC) will travel to Lakeland Community College tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader. It will be the final league tilt for the team, who has already clinched the OCCAC championship outright.
