Ducat, Burtscher Claim OCCAC Player of the Week Honors

Toledo, Ohio---Lesley Ducat (Evergreen/Lyons, Ohio) and Makayla Burtscher (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.) have earned Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) weekly honors.

Ducat, a sophomore right handed pitcher who went 4-0 in conference play last week, was named the OCCAC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. In 24.1 innings last week, she struck out 24 with a 4.60 ERA. Over the past two weeks, she is 7-0.

This is the third time Ducat has claimed the honor this year (March 15) and the eighth time in her career. The Siena Heights University signee is 14-5 overall this year with a 3.36 ERA. She has struck out 135 batters over 143.2 innings. In OCCAC play, she is 6-0 with a 2.92 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 52.2 innings.

Burtscher, meanwhile, had a big week out of the leadoff spot. The freshman centerfielder went 11-for-24 (.458) with nine runs, one double, three triples, two home runs, seven RBI and five stolen bases. Both of her home runs were of the inside the park variety.

Overall this year, Burtscher is batting .403 (56-for-139) with six doubles, seven triples, three home runs, 19 RBI, nine walks and 38 stolen bases. In OCCAC play, she is hitting .370 (17-for-46) with 10 runs, one double, three triples, two home runs, seven RBI and eight stolen bases.

The Owens softball team is 26-14 overall this year. They captured the program's second consecutive and 13th overall OCCAC championship with a 10-2 record, and they will be back in action on Thursday against Henry Ford College beginning at 3:30 p.m. The doubleheader will be the home finale for the team, which will travel to Oakland Community College and Kellogg Community College before beginning postseason play May 6-8.
