Owens Softball Routs Siena Heights 11-3, Improves to 12-9 This Year

Adrian, Mich.---The Owens Community College softball team got a bases clearing double fromEricca Herzog (Southview/Sylvania, Ohio) to highlight an 11-3 win over Siena Heights University's JV team today.

After Siena Heights produced an unearned run off Owens starter Kailey Minarchick (Columbia Station/Columbia Station, Ohio) in the first, the Owens offense exploded with four runs in the third.

Cassidy Rolf (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) singled and later scored on an error for the first run.Sabina Watson (Bradford/Starke, Fla.) followed with an RBI single to right field, and Emily Young(Maumee/Maumee, Ohio) also scored on the play due to another error.

Makayla Burtscher (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.) closed the inning's scoring with an RBI single to right field.

Siena Heights answered with a pair of RBI singles in the third to trim their deficit to one, but Herzog produced an RBI single in the fourth inning to bump the lead back up to two.

In the fifth, Owens scored five times to open up a 10-3 lead. The highlight of the inning was the bases clearing double from Herzog, but Olivia Myers(Elmwood/Bloomdale, Ohio) also had an RBI single. The fifth run scored via an error.

Haley Kreger (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.) produced the final run when she got a pinch hit RBI single up the middle to score Burtscher, who had singled with one out.

Herzog finished 2-for-2 with a run, a walk and four RBI to lead the offense. Rolf (2-for-3, R, BB), Burtscher (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Watson (2-for-4, R, RBI) and Lindsey Wiggins(Bradford/Brooker, Fla.) (2-for-4, R) also helped the offense. 

Minarchick picked up the win in the circle. She went all six innings while allowing six hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks. She also struck out six.

Owens is now 12-9 overall this year. Tomorrow's doubleheader at Walsh University has been postponed, so the next action is scheduled for April 1 at Notre Dame College JV beginning at 3 p.m.

The second game of the doubleheader was called off due to darkness after four innings. That game, along with stats, will not count.
