OWENS EXPRESS SOFTBALL EARNS OCCAC’S TOP AWARDS

Team also advances to National Tournament

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio, May 11, 2021 – The Owens Express softball team swept top honors from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC), led by Player of the Year Hayley Kanzig, co-Pitcher of the Year Autumn Brososky and Coach of the Year Chuck Brososky.

Owens also had four student-athletes voted to the 2021 All-OCCAC Team, these include:

  • Autumn Brososky, pitcher/shortstop/right field, Ida High School graduate
  • Hayley Kanzig, pitcher/first base, Shelby High School graduate
  • Alexis Orner, shortstop/catcher, Springfield High School graduate
  • Valerie Swope, outfielder, Rossford High School graduate

“I am so proud and humbled for the Owens Express to lead the way in the individual all-conference award winners,” said Chuck Brososky, head coach for Softball. “These players have put in a lot of hard work to get to this point and deserve their recognition. To be named Coach of the Year says a lot about the makeup of this team and how much fun they are to coach.”

The Owens Express softball won the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference softball title with a conference record of 8-2 and 15-5 overall.

The team also won the NJCAA Region XII Division III Championship after defeating Delta College, 11-2 and 10-2, in a best of three game format on Saturday. The team will advance to the eight team NJCAA D III National Title playoff at Carrier Park in Syracuse, NY on May 27-29. The last time Owens softball advanced to the National Tournament was 2011. 

“We are so pleased to represent Owens Community College at nationals. We can’t wait to head to Syracuse at the end of the month,” said Brososky.
