Bill Gomoluch's first year at Owens Community College came in 1996-97, as he replaced Renee Kudzia.

In 1996-97, Gomoluch led the Express to a 28-3 record and their first OCCAC tournament championship with three straight wins. However, carrying a 28-2 record, the team was upset in their first game at regionals, 92-89 to Glen Oaks Community College. The Express had led by 13 with 10 minutes left before dropping the game in OT.

He came to Owens from Deerfield (MI) High School, where he compiled a 117-63 (.650) record there in eight years after taking over a program that had six coaches in five years and a 30-game losing streak.  During his eight seasons, he produced five first-team "All-Starters" including former Owens player and Academic All-American Ashli Barta.  Coach Gomoluch played basketball at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI.  He graduated from St. Clair with an associate's degree in Social Services.
