Matt Godfrey completed his one and only year as head coach of the Owens women's basketball program in 2003-04.

During the season, he led the team to their second consecutive and fourth overall trip to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament, where they finished in ninth place.

He joined the college with over 13 years of coaching experience at various levels. Since 2000, Godfrey has served as the varsity assistant girls basketball coach for Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan. While at the school, he was a member of three Huron League and District championship teams.

His coaching experience also includes serving as the head coach for women's basketball at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, michigan, from 1997-2002. During Godfrey's tenure, he amassed an overall record of 81-63 and captured the 1997-98 Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference championship. In addition, he served as an assistant coach at Henry Ford for two years.

Godfrey earned an Air Frame Power Plant Certificate from the Michigan Institute of Aeronautics and a Michigan Limited Appraisers License from the Real Estate and Appraisal Institute. He resides in Brownstown, Michigan.
