Melanie Schroeder begins her first year as an assistant coach for the Express women's basketball program.

A graduate of Miller City High School, she earned her associate's degree in physical terapy assistant from Owens in 2009. Schroder was a member of Owens' successful women's basketball program from 2006-08. She was a team captain and earned NJCAA Academic All-American and OCCAC Academic All-Conference honors.

During her collegiate career, Schroeder also was named team defensive player of the year, the NJCAA D-II and OCCAC player of the week and holds the record for most steals (10) in a game.

Schroeder has basketball coaching experience at both the high school and junior high school levels. From 2006-07, she served as girls basketball coach at Miller City High School in the American Youth Basketball Tour summer tournaments. The Leipsic native was girls head basketball coach for Miller City Junior High School in the summer of 2006.

She is currently working as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Holiday Park Physical Rehabilitation in Perrysburg.
