University Center, MI---Uniqua Mitchell (Martin Luther King/Detroit, Mich.) and three others scored in double figures to lead the No. 12 Owens Express women's basketball team in a 74-44 defeat of Delta College on the road Tuesday night.
Mitchell came off the bench for a team-high 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting overall, including 4-for-7 from long range. Others in double figures included Emma-Jean Ricketts (Anthony Wayne/Waterville, Ohio) with 12, Kieona Foster (Shawnee/Lima, Ohio) with 10 and Mackenzie Heacock (Arlington/Arlington, Ohio) with 10.
Five players had at least seven rebounds for the Express, led by eight from Karahn Scott (Scott/Toledo, Ohio) and Aja Hall (Fostoria/Fostoria, Ohio). Hall also finished with eight points, and Scott finished with seven points. While it was the first time Hall hasn't scored in double figures this season, the sophomore moved into sole possession of 14th place on the career scoring list as she now has 742 points.
Other leaders in rebounding included Foster, Heacock and Mitchell with seven apiece. Foster produced team-highs in assists with four and steals with three.
Owens jumped out to a 41-27 lead at the half, which ended on a banked three point shot from Foster. The Express shot 25-for-68 overall from the field, 9-for-25 from three point range and 15-for-25 from the foul line. Meanwhile, Delta shot 16-for-65 overall, 1-for-9 from three point range and 11-for-15 from the foul line.
The Express held Delta without a field goal in the second half until the 12:02 mark. In the second half alone, Delta struggled offensively as they went 6-for-37 overall, 0-for-7 from three point range and 5-for7 from the foul line.
Nana Hall helped the Pioneers avoid a complete offensive crash as she led the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kelly Dineen added 11 points for Delta.
Owens outrebounded Delta 59 to 40, while also getting more assists (13 to 6), less turnovers (19 to 20), more points in the paint (32 to 24), more points off turnovers (25 to 9), more second chance points (14 to 6), more bench points (33 to 3) and more blocks (8 to 3). Delta, however, had four more steals (11 to 7).
The Express (11-3) will take on Kellogg Community College on Wednesday in the SHAC beginning at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on BCSN.
