Hall Tops 600 Career Points as Express Roll to Victory

Toledo, OH---The No. 13 Owens Express women's basketball team defeated Mott Community College 90-65 in the SHAC on Monday night, following a weekend win over Ashland University Club.

Aja Hall (Fostoria/Fostoria, Ohio) led the Express, once again, in scoring with 22 points, while adding eight rebounds, four assists and six steals. The sophomore guard has led the team in scoring in all but one of the team's six games. Additionally, with her last two games, Hall became the 23rd player in Owens women's basketball history to eclipse the 600 career point plateau. The sophomore now has 137 points in six games this year, and she has accumulated 609 career points.

Emma-Jean Ricketts (Anthony Wayne/Waterville, Ohio) also had a big game for the Express as she finished with 17 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Mackenzie Heacock (Arlington/Arlington, Ohio) had 15 points and three steals off the bench, while Hailey Galvan (Archbold/Archbold, Ohio) flirted with her second triple-double of the season. The sophomore center had 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks.

Rhonettia Dukes led Mott with 19 points, while Marquetta Green had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kaylee Rahmann also had a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Mott is now 0-4 this season.

Owens shot 38-for-83 (45.8%) overall from the field, 4-for-21 (19%) from 3-point range, and 10-for-21 (47.6%) from the foul line. Mott finished 25-for-72 (34.7%) overall, 7-for-19 (36.8%) from three point range, and 8-for-15 (53.3%) from the foul line.

The Express routed Ashland University Club 101-73 Friday night on the road behind double-doubles from Hall and Uniqua Mitchell (Martin Luther King/Detroit, Mich.).

Mitchell, a freshman point guard, had her best game of the season with 24 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and six blocks. She finished 10-for-17 from the field overall and 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Hall had 24 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

Ricketts added 21 points and eight rebounds, while Galvan, despite being limited to 12 minutes by foul trouble, had 10 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Heacock had nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Kieona Foster (Shawnee/Lima, Ohio) hit double figures in rebounding as she totaled five points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Owens shot 40-for-90 (44.4%) overall from the field, while Ashland shot 27-for-75 (36%). The Express outrebounded Ashland 69-38, while also out-assisting them 23-8.

The Express (5-1) will host the Turkey Trot Shootout this weekend in the SHAC. On Friday at 3 p.m., Owens will take on No. 6-ranked Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Then, the Express will battle No. 24-ranked Schoolcraft College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
