Galvan Gets Triple-Double, Sets National Record As Express Advance To Owens Tip Off Classic Championship

Toledo, OH---Hailey Galvan (Archbold/Archbold, Ohio) produced a triple-double and set a national record in leading the Owens Express women's basketball team to a 98-28 win over Mid Michigan Community College Saturday afternoon in the opener of the Owens Tip Off Classic.

Galvan had 12 points, 10 rebounds, 12 blocks, one assist and one steal. She finished 6-for-12 from the field. Additionally, her 12 blocks breaks the school and NJCAA Div. II records for most blocks in one game. She had 11 in a game last year against Cincinnati State. The sophomore center has 27 blocks in three games. In the last two games, she has 24 rebounds, as well.

Owens jumped out to a 47-10 lead at halftime. Overall, they were 40-for-83 from the field, 6-for-18 from three point range and 12-for-20 from the foul line. Defensively, the Express held Mid-Michigan to 10-for-82 shooting overall, 4-for-38 from three point range and 4-for-12 from the foul line.

Emma-Jean Ricketts (Anthony Wayne/Waterville, Ohio) led the Express in scoring with 22 points, while adding eight rebounds, five assists and one steal. She was 10-for-14 from the field including 1-for-1 from the three point line. Aja Hall (Fostoria/Fostoria, Ohio) added 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Also scoring in double figures for Owens were: Mackenzie Heacock (Arlington/Arlington, Ohio) with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists and Danielle Bezeau (Swanton/Swanton, Ohio) with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. It is the third straight game Heacock has scored in double figures.

Alyssa Lassey (Ida/Ida, Mich.) had eight points, six rebounds and four assists, while Uniqua Mitchell (Martin Luther King/Detroit, Mich.) had six points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Kieona Foster (Shawnee/Lima, Ohio) had five points, seven rebounds, four assists and a team best five steals.

Bailee Adams (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio) scored two points to make sure every Express player scored.

Owens completely dominated the game as they out-rebounded Mid-Michigan 70-48, while also getting more assists (30-3), less turnovers (14-23), more blocks (13-6) and more steals (15-6).

The Express (3-0) will now play Hillsborough (Fla.) Community College (2-0) tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the championship of the Owens Tip Off Classic. Mid-Michigan will play Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College at 10 a.m. in the consolation game.
