Ricketts And Scott Carry Express Over Sinclair 73-54

Dayton, OH---The No. 10 Express women's basketball team got double-doubles from Emma-Jean Ricketts (Anthony Wayne/Waterville, OH) and Karahn Scott (Scott/Toledo, OH) to secure a 73-54 win over Sinclair Community College on the road Saturday afternoon.

Sinclair kept the game reasonably close as they were within eight points with 6:57 left, but Owens took control from there and held their largest lead of 20 with just less than a minute remaining.

Ricketts bounced back from her worst game of the season to lead the Express with 18 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and one block. She finished 8-for-19 from the field, 2-for-2 from the foul line, and six of her rebounds came on the offensive end. In her previous game, Ricketts finished with only three points, which was only the second time she has scored in single digits this season.

Scott also had six offensive rebounds en route to totals of 13 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and one assist. Overall, the Express out-produced Sinclair 24 to 15 on the offensive glass.

Owens led 33-24 at the half. They shot 14-for-33 overall in the first half, 1-for-9 from three point range and 4-for-4 from the foul line. In the second half, the Express struggled a little offensively (15-for-43 overall, 0-for-6 from three point range and 10-for-13 from the foul line), but maintained control of the game with their 49 to 38 overall rebounding average.

Hitting the glass produced a 48 to 26 advantage in paint points and a 23 to 13 advantage in second chance points for the Express, who also had advantages in turnovers (12 to 21), steals (14 to 1), points off turnovers (22 to 9) and bench points (18 to 8).

Overall, the Express shot 29-for-76 from the field, 1-for-15 from three point range and 14-for-17 from the foul line. Sinclair finished 22-for-58 overall, 4-for-16 from three point range and 6-for-13 from the foul line.

Kieona Foster (Shawnee/Lima, OH) added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks for the Express, while Uniqua Mitchell had nine points, five rebounds, one steal and one block.

Meanwhile, Aja Hall (Fostoria/Fostoria, OH) had her worst game statistically of the season as she finished with five points, eight rebounds, two assists and one block in 27 minutes.  The Express turned the ball over only 12 times, but six of those came from Hall.

The Express overcame that, however, to move to 16-3 overall and 2-0 in the OCCAC. Sinclair falls to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the OCCAC.

Sinclair was led by 16 points, seven assists, and six rebounds from Danielle Forrer, while Brandi McDaniel added 13 points and India Taste had 10 points. McDaniel and Taste each added seven points.

The Express will next play Wednesday at home against Cuyahoga Community College in the SHAC at 5:30 p.m.
