Kirtland, Ohio---The No. 6 Express women's basketball team smothered Lakeland Community College into 28 turnovers despite Lakeland's attempt to play stall ball in a 92-39 win on the road.
With the win, the Express won their 17th straight game to tie the 1996-97 team for the second longest winning streak in program history.
Eboni Adams (Maple Heights/Cleveland, Ohio) led the Express in scoring with a season-high 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting (3-for-6 from 3-point range), while adding three assists, three steals and one block. Fellow sophomore guard Kamilah Carter (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) added 18 points, two assists and a team-high six steals.
Carter finished 6-for-11 from the field, including a 3-for-6 mark from 3-point range. Her six steals tied her career-high, which was previously set on Nov. 26 against Mott Community College.
The Express only turned the ball over a season-low six times, while picking up 17 steals. They outscored Lakeland 37-4 in points off turnovers and 46-10 in paint points. Their bench, led by 12 points from Imani Vickers (Mansfield Senior/Mansfield, Ohio) outscored Lakeland's bench 33-5.
It was the first double-figure collegiate scoring game for Vickers, while the single digit turnover total for the Express marked the third time they've done that this year.
Everybody in the Express lineup produced at least a point, while the team finished 34-for-72 (47.2 percent) from the field, 9-for-19 (47.4 percent) from 3-point range and 15-for-20 from the foul line. Their overall field goal percentage tied for the team's third best single game mark this season, while their 3-point field goal percentage is a new season-high.
LaKayra Carlisle (Pershing/Detroit, Mich.) produced a team-high eight rebounds off the bench, while Malaysha Cammon (Divine Child/Dearborn, Mich.) had a team-high three blocks.
Antonija Lozancic led Lakeland (3-15, 0-3 OCCAC) with 10 points, while Melanie Primer added 10 rebounds. As a team, they finished 13-for-46 (28.3 percent) overall, 6-for-19 (31.6 percent) from 3-point range and 7-for-10 (70 percent) from the foul line.
The Express, who improved to 17-1 overall and 3-0 in OCCAC play with the win, will host Edison Community College next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Should they win, they would tie the 2009-10 team for the longest win streak in program history.
