Express PG Carter Nabs OCCAC Player of the Week Honors

Toledo, Ohio---Kamilah Carter (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) women's basketball player of the week.

The 5'4" sophomore guard averaged 23 points per game last week as the No. 6 Express women's basketball team picked up wins over Lakeland Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

It is her third POW award of the year. She also won it on Nov. 10 and Dec. 1.

In her team's 83-38 win over Lakeland on Wednesday, Carter had 24 points, three assists and three steals. She finished 10-for-15 from the field and 4-for-7 from 3-point range.

On Saturday, Carter had 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in an 89-82 overtime win over Cincinnati State. With the game tied at 82-all in overtime, Carter converted a 3-point play that ended up being the game winning points. On her team's next possession, she made 2-for-2 at the foul line to seal the game.

With the win, the Express avoided falling into a first place tie with the Surge.

Carter is the conference's third leading scorer at 21 points per game, while also averaging 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and two steals per game for the Express (21-2 overall, 7-1 OCCAC).

She also moved into the Owens women's basketball's top 15 in single season scoring this past week. She now has 453 points this year.

Carter and the Express will travel to Piqua, Ohio on Wednesday to take on Edison Community College at 5:30 p.m. With four games left in the conference, the Express are two games up in the loss column on every other team, but have a tough week ahead with Edison and Columbus State Community College. Columbus State handed the Express their only conference loss this year.
