OCCAC Announces Postseason Women's Basketball Awards

Toledo, Ohio---The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced their postseason awards in women's basketball recently and Owens Community College landed four players on the All-OCCAC team, including two on the first team.

Kamilah Carter (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Ashley Tunstall (Huber Heights Wayne/Dayton, Ohio) were both named First Team All-OCCAC.

Carter, a sophomore guard, became the fifth leading single-season scorer of all-time for the Express with 559 points. She was also third in the conference with 20.1 PPG over 12 OCCAC matchups. Carter was 90-for-187 (48.1 percent) from the field in the conference this year. She was also fourth in the OCCAC with 49 assists.

Tunstall, a freshman forward, stepped in right away to help lead the Express as the conference's sixth-leading scorer at 14.8 PPG. She also battled her way to 112 rebounds (9.3 RPG), good enough for second in the OCCAC.

Other players taking honors for the Express women's team were Eboni Adams (Maple Heights/Cleveland, Ohio) and Paige Wright (Northrop/Fort Wayne, Ind). Adams was named Second Team All-OCCAC, while Wright was Honorable Mention All-OCCAC.

Adams, a sophomore guard, averaged 12 PPG to finish 11th in the conference, while Wright, a sophomore guard/forward, led the conference in assists with 73 in just 11 games. She averaged 6.6 dimes per game.

As a team, the No. 5 Express finished with an overall record of 26-3 and 11-1 in OCCAC play. They began the Region XII District I tournament with an 81-46 win over Edison Community College, but their season would end in the championship game with a 71-64 loss to No. 17 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
