No. 3 Owens Scores First 17 Points En Route To 76-51 Win In Conference Opener

Dayton, Ohio---The No. 3 Owens Community College women's basketball team scored the first 17 points of the game en route to a 76-51 win over Sinclair Community College on the road today.

Owens also led 25-2 with 13:09 left in the first half and 34-6 with 9:32 left before taking a 46-16 lead into halftime.

Sinclair opened the second half on a 10-4 run to trim its deficit to 24 with 17:03 left. Down the stretch, they cut it to as few as 20 before Owens closed the game on a 9-4 run.

Ashley Tunstall (Huber Heights Wayne/Dayton, Ohio) led Owens with 13 points and 13 rebounds (four offensive).

Aside from Tunstall, four others notched double figures and all of them came from the starting lineup. LaKayra Carlisle (Pershing/Detroit, Mich.) and Sierra Harley (Africentric/Columbus, Ohio) each added 12, while Zhana Randolph (Rochester/Rochester Hills, Mich.) had 11 and Briana Williams (Stebbins/Dayton, Ohio) had 10.

Carlisle assisted Tunstall with nine rebounds (four offensive), Randolph had a team-high four assists and Harley had a team-high four steals.

Off the bench, Demy Whitaker (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, Ohio) had seven points and one block. The other of the two team blocks came from Courizma Williams (Hughes/Cincinnati, Ohio).

Owens finished 27-for-60 (45 percent) from the field, including a 7-for-19 (36.8 percent) finish from 3-point range. They also made 15-for-21 from the foul line. They picked up the win despite coughing the ball up nine more times than Sinclair, who finished 17-for-66 from the field (2-for-19 from 3-point range) and 15-for-28 from the foul line.

Jenae Curtiss finished with a game-high 15 points on 6-for-24 shooting for Sinclair. O'Sha Owens added 11 points and team-highs in rebounds (6), assists (4), blocks (2) and steals (2).

Owens (16-1, 1-0 OCCAC) picked up its 16th straight win, while Sinclair fell to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in the OCCAC.

Owens will be back in action Wednesday vs Cuyahoga at home in the SHAC. The game will be broadcasted live on BCSN.
