Owens Women's, Men's Basketball Teams Honored By Board of Trustees

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College Board of Trustees honored this year's men's and women's basketball teams earlier this month.

At the May 5 meeting, the Board of Trustees put forth the following recommendation:

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Owens Express men's basketball achieved an overall record of 25-7, a record of 12-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association and advanced to the Region XII District 11 championship game of the National Junior College Athletic Association; and

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Owens Express women's basketball achieved an overall record of 34-2, a record of 14-0 and captured their third straight title in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association, won the Region XII District 1 championship of the National Junior College Athletic Association and advanced to the NJCAA Division II Final Four championship to finish third in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Owens Express women's basketball team holds a record winning streak of 33 straight games, a regular season conference winning streak of 21 games and a regular season overall home winning streak of 44 games; and

WHEREAS, President Mike Bower and the Board of Trustees extend their congratulations to the following individuals:

 - Men's basketball head coach Dave Clarke on his 100th victory with the district semifinal win
- Men's basketball sophomore guard John Murry named NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American
- Women's basketball head coach Mike Llanas on his 250th victory and assistant coach Stephen
Perry on his 200th victory
- Women's basketball sophomore forward Ashley Tunstall and freshman guard Sierra Harley both named to the NJCAA Division II All-National Tournament Team
- Women's basketball freshman guard Sierra Harley named NJCAA Division II First Team All-American and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) First Team All-American
- Women's basketball sophomore forward Ashley Tunstall and freshman guard Demy Whitaker named WBCA Honorable Mention All-Americans

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Owens Community College Board of Trustees proudly commends and congratulates the student-athletes and coaches of the 2014-2015 Owens Express women's and men's Basketball teams for their outstanding spirit, winning records and individual achievements;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is now appropriate for the student-athletes and coaches to stand and be recognized.
