Toledo, Ohio---The No. 4 Owens Community College women's basketball team saw a 25-point lead disappear in a 66-59 loss to No. 8 Schoolcraft College in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) today.

With the loss, Owens had its 47-game regular season home winning streak snapped. Their last loss at home occurred on Jan. 21, 2012.

In the first period, Owens couldn't have gotten off to a better start. A pair of 3-pointers from Lakyn Gulley (South Side/Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Tatyana Reynolds (Rogers/Toledo, Ohio), along with a layup from Aysah Ingram (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio), gave Owens an 8-0 lead two minutes into the game.

Schoolcraft's Jamyra Wilson scored on a layup with 7:44 left to get her team into the scoring column, but Owens scored the next 13 points to take a 21-2 lead with 5:14 left in the period.

T'era Nesbitt hit a pair of free throws to stop the run and pull her team within 17, but Gulley made back-to-back 3-pointers and Briana Williams (Stebbins/Dayton, Ohio) hit a layup to give Owens a 29-4 lead with 2:34 left in the period.

From that point on, however, Owens scored just 30 points.

Schoolcraft's momentum started with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first period by Ashley Bland.

Owens, however, kept some distance as Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) hit a layup with 2:33 left in the half to give her team a 35-15 lead.

Schoolcraft then closed the half on an 8-4 run. With a 37-19 lead and 13 seconds left in the half, Owens rebounded the ball and had a chance to take the last shot, but Reynolds pushed the ball up the court and hit a running jumper off the glass in the paint for a 20 point lead.

On the other end, however, Rainy McCune was fouled and made a pair of free throws with five seconds left. Schoolcraft's Jade Smith then stole the inbounds pass and threw it to McCune, who hit a jumper at the buzzer to make it 39-23 at halftime.

Schoolcraft opened the third period on a 10-1 run to trim their deficit to seven with 6:17 left. Reynolds answered with a jumper, and Ingram made a layup to bring the lead back up to 11, but Schoolcraft wouldn't go away and went on a 5-0 run.

Gulley then hit a layup with 11 seconds left to give Owens a six point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

Reese hit a jumper on the fourth period's first possession. After a Schoolcraft missed 3-pointer, Gulley nailed another 3-pointer gave Owens a 53-42 lead. Schoolcraft scored the next four points, but Williams drained a 3-pointer to give Owens a 56-46 lead with 7:31 left.

From that point on, though, Schoolcraft closed the game on a 20-3 run. During that stretch, Owens committed six turnovers and shot 1-for-12 from the field.

Nesbitt led all scorers with 28 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four blocks. She finished 7-for-18 from the field and had 19 points in the second half alone. McCune added 11 points off the bench.

For Owens, Gulley and Reese led the team with 16 points apiece. Reese tied Mikayla Ward (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) for the team-high in rebounds with seven. Reynolds chipped in 11 points and seven assists.

Aside from their 21 turnovers, Owens was hurt by a scoreless bench that finished 0-for-10 from the field.

Owens is now 6-3 overall, and they will get a mini-break before hitting the road to take on Henry Ford College at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2.
