32-0 Second Half Run Catapults No. 9 Owens Women To 105-53 Rout Of Edison

Toledo, Ohio---The No. 9 Owens Community College women's basketball team outscored Edison Community College 32-6 in the third quarter en route to a 105-53 win in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) tonight.

With the win, Owens has now won nine straight overall this year, and they pushed their program record regular season conference winning streak to 31. The team is now 19-6 overall and 10-0 in OCCAC play. They will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Columbus State Community College at Wittenberg University's Rike Center.

Owens was powered inside by a pair of double-doubles. Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) had 15 points, 14 rebounds (seven offensive), three assists and three steals, while Aysah Ingram (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio) had 14 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.

At the point, Briana Williams (Stebbins/Dayton, Ohio) produced 10 points, while dishing out 10 assists. It was her fifth game with at least 10 assists this year and her second in the past three games.

Tatyana Reynolds (Rogers/Toledo, Ohio) and Lakyn Gulley (South Side/Fort Wayne, Ind.) each led Owens in scoring with 19 points. The duo combined to shoot 12-for-25 from the field, including a 10-for-20 finish from 3-point range and a 4-for-4 foul line performance.

Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.), who had six points, two steals, two blocks and one rebound in the third quarter after Williams experienced foul trouble, added 15 points, a team-high seven steals, three assists and two blocks.

Sybil Roseboro (Elyria/Elyria, Ohio) chipped in nine points, five steals, three assists and three rebounds, while Mikayla Ward (Huron/Ypsilanti, Mich.) added six rebounds.

Early on in the game, Owens got a pair of 3-pointers via Gulley and Reynolds to take an 8-2 lead. Moments later, Reynolds hit another 3-pointer, but Edison pulled within three with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

A 7-0 Owens run pushed the lead to double digits. Brooke Hickey of Edison hit a 3-pointer to pull her team within four with 1:21 left, but a layup from Gulley gave Owens a 26-20 lead after one.

Sydney Miller opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to pull Edison within three, but Owens answered with a 5-0 run. Hickey hit another 3-pointer, but Gulley answered with a 3-pointer following that.

Reynolds and Bethea hit back-to-back 3-pointers off passes from Williams to give Owens a 46-32 lead with 3:14 remaining in the half. From there, Owens led by double digits over the final three minutes. Ingram's layup with a couple seconds left made it 50-37 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Edison scored four of its six points in the opening minute. From there, Owens outscored them 32-2 the rest of the quarter. Williams and Reese opened the streak with a pair of layups. Brooke Dunlevy answered with a jumper for Edison with 7:35 left, but her team went scoreless the rest of the quarter.

The third quarter run featured six straight points by Roseboro at one point, and Gulley closed the quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 82-43 after three.

Williams and Ingram each picked up buckets to open the fourth quarter and complete an incredible 32-0 run, which stretched the lead to 43.

In the middle of the quarter, Reynolds hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Kyra Johnson (Stevenson/Livonia, Mich.) then hit a strong layup following an offensive rebound before Gulley and Bethea combined for the team's final nine points.

Edison was led by Dunlevy, who had 18 points and eclipsed 1,000 in her career early in the game. Hickey added 14 points, while Miller had 10. The team was hurt by zero points off the bench and 25 turnovers.

Owens outscored Edison 22-0 in second chance points, 37-16 off turnovers and 48-16 in the paint.

Edison fell to 11-14 overall and 4-7 in OCCAC play with the loss.

Notes

Gulley, who was 5-for-12 from 3-point range tonight, is now six made 3-pointers away from breaking the program's single season record. She is also five attempts away from breaking the attempts record. Defensively, she now has 78 steals this year, which is 25 away from the single season record.

Reynolds, who had 19 points tonight, is now 25 points away from reaching 500 in her career.
