Reese Captures Fifth OCCAC Player of the Week Award

Toledo, Ohio---Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio), a freshman forward from the No. 7 Owens Community College women's basketball team, has just earned her fifth Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Week award.

The award marks the end of this year's player of the week awards. Reese previously won the award on Jan. 10, Jan. 24, Feb. 14 and Feb. 28. On Jan. 13, she was named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week, becoming only the fourth player in program history to achieve that honor.

In two Region XII District I tournament games last week, Reese averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 assists, two steals and two blocks. In a 79-55 win over Columbus State in the semifinals, she had 17 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and one assist in just 25 minutes. Then, in a 71-69 win over Cincinnati State in the championship game, she had 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks.

Reese, who has also been named First Team All-OCCAC, OCCAC Player of the Year, Co-Region XII District I Player of the Year and Region XII District I tournament MVP this year, has averaged 13.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 assists this year over 31 games. 

Owens (26-6 overall) have won 16 straight. They will open National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament play next Wednesday as the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 12 Dean College at 2 p.m. E.T.
