Reese Selected For NJCAA All-Star Game, To Have Jersey Displayed At HOF

Toledo, Ohio---Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio), a freshman forward for the Owens Community College women's basketball team, has been selected as one of only 40 student-athletes to participate in the eighth annual National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend July 21-24 in Niceville, Fla.

In doing so, Reese will become the first Owens women's basketball student-athlete in program history to participate in the game. She joins former men's basketball All-American James Kelly (2011-13), who participated in the NJCAA All-Star Game in 2013, as one of only two Owens student-athletes to achieve the honor.

As part of the weekend, Reese will attend the NJCAA Hall of Fame Banquet and participate in the All-Star festivities on July 20-21.

As a freshman, Reese led the Owens women's basketball team to a 29-7 record, including a perfect 14-0 mark in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, a Region XII District I tournament championship and a fifth place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. She led the team in scoring at 13.8 per game, while adding 10.9 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game, as well.

Following the season, Reese was named First Team All-OCCAC, OCCAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Region XII, Region XII District I Player of the Year, Region XII District I Tournament MVP and NJCAA Second Team All-American. At the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, where she led the team to a quarterfinal appearance and a 3-1 record, she averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds to earn all-tournament team recognition.

In addition to her NJCAA All-Star Game appearance, Reese will have her jersey displayed at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Ring of Honor in Knoxville, Tenn. in recognition of her outstanding play during the 2015-16 season.

The Owens women's basketball program recently finished a 29-7 season that included the program's fourth straight Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) championship, a Region XII District I championship and a fifth place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament. The team advanced to the NJCAA Elite 8.

It was the program's second straight and third appearance in the past four years at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, where they have recorded three top 10 finishes in the past 4 seasons (7th in 2012-13, 3rd in 2014-15 and 5th in 2015-16). In 2014-15, the team advanced to the NJCAA Division II Final 4. The team has also captured five of the past six OCCAC championships and three of the past four Region XII District I championships.

Furthermore, the program has won at least 25 games in each of the past seven seasons. During that time, the program has compiled a 195-37 record (.841 winning percentage), including an 81-9 record (.900 winning percentage) in OCCAC play.

Head coach Michael Llanas, who recently completed his 12th season at Owens, has compiled a 294-96 record during that time. Furthermore, he has achieved a 127-29 record in OCCAC play with six OCCAC championships.
