Toledo, Ohio---Every player scored at least four points as the No. 3 Owens Community College women's basketball team routed Wayne County Community College 122-46 in the Student Health and Activities Center last night.

With the victory, Owens is now 2-0 and pushed its regular season winning streak to 16 dating back to Jan. 6 of last year. They will be back in action next Wednesday on the road against No. 15 Schoolcraft College at 5:30 p.m.

As a team, Owens produced the second best single game offensive output in program history. They tied a school record with 64 points in the second half, finished just three points shy of tying the single game team record for most points, and they scored at least 30 points in each of the final three quarters.

Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio), who tied Essence Cowan (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) for the game-high in scoring with 22 points, eclipsed 500 career points on her opening basket, which came in the first minute of the game. She became just the 41st player in program history to eclipse that mark and now sits just 16 points from passing Jolene Brooks (1996-99) for 40th place on the career scoring list.

Wayne County's Jhontia Green made a 3-pointer to pull her team within one just a minute and a half into the game, but Owens responded with an 11-0 run. Green then ended the run with another 3-pointer, and it was followed by a 3-pointer from Jeshani Shinn as Wayne County trailed by six with 2:45 left in the first quarter.

From there, however, it was all Owens. They closed the quarter on a 10-0 run. Brenda Pennington (Bishop Noll Institute/Hammond, Ind.) scored half of those points, and Haili Mossing (Evergreen/Metamora, Ohio) capped the quarter with a 3-pointer.

Reese and Kamryn Troike (St. Wendelin/Fostoria, Ohio) then opened the second quarter with back-to-back layups to complete a 14-0 run. Cowan made a 3-pointer and a free throw a couple minutes later to give Owens a 35-15 lead.

Over the final 5:16 of the half, Owens went on a 21-4 run. Courizma Williams (Hughes/Cincinnati, Ohio) opened it with a layup. Reese and Olivia Frost (North Baltimore/North Baltimore, Ohio) split the next eight points before Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Kaylah Ivey (Westerville South/Westerville, Ohio) had back-to-back layups.

Bethea then made five free throws in the final 1:23, and Cowan made a layup to close the half and give Owens a 58-21 lead at the break.

The third quarter then began with a 12-2 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from Cowan and Sybil Roseboro (Elyria/Elyria, Ohio), as Owens led 70-23. Wayne County scored the next four points before Mossing buried another 3-pointer.

Following a 6-1 run by Wayne County, a mass substitution by Owens proved beneficial as they closed the quarter on an 11-0 run to take an 88-33 lead. Pennington and Cowan combined for the final seven points.

A fast break layup from Denissa Sly (Northmont/Englewood, Ohio) put Owens on the verge of the century mark with 6:46 left, and then Reese put them over that mark with a layup. On the play, Mossing passed up a wide open 3-point attempt to feed the ball to her in the post.

Following that, Owens closed the game on a 19-4 run. Haley Pickard (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio) scored four points late, and Troike closed the game with a 3-pointer to give Owens a 76 point victory.
Outside of the 22 points apiece from Reese and Cowan, Owens only had two other players reach double figures in a balanced effort. Pennington finished third in scoring with 12, while adding six rebounds, five assists and a team-high three steals. Troike finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench. Cowan tied Pennington for the team-high in steals, and Roseboro tied Pennington for the team-high in assists.

Nobody played more than 20 minutes for Owens, and everybody played at least 11 minutes. Frost led the team with 12 rebounds, including a team-high four offensive rebounds, and she finished just two points shy of a double-double. Ivey also finished just two points shy of a double-double, and totaled 11 rebounds. 

Notes

Reese and Cowan have now produced back-to-back games in which they tied each other for the team-high in scoring. Both are averaging 18 points per contest to open the season. 

Bethea, who has now recorded at least one steal in 15 straight games, is now 11 points shy of 300 in her career. 

The team's 122 points is the second highest team scoring output in program history behind the 125 point effort on Nov. 16, 2005 in a 55 point win over Henry Ford. 

Head coach Mike Llanas is now just four wins away from 300 in his career at Owens, which started in the 2004-05 season. He is the program's all-time wins leader. 

Reese has now reached double figures in scoring in 22 straight games dating back to last year.
