Toledo, Ohio---It was business as usual for the No. 3 Owens Community College as they routed No. 15 Schoolcraft College 92-50 in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) on Wednesday.

It was the seventh straight win, all by an average margin of 48, to open the season for Owens. Furthermore, they also completed the season sweep of Schoolcraft after previously defeating them by 39 earlier in the month. Owens will host Muskegon Community College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Owens led from start to finish, except for a nearly one minute stretch in the game's opening minutes when the score was tied. Brenda Pennington (Bishop Noll/Hammond, Ind.) scored the game's first points on a jumper in the paint to the right of the hoop.

After Schoolcraft tied the score on a Jade Smith jumper, Owens scored the next four points on a pair of free throws from Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) and a layup from Sybil Roseboro (Elyria/Elyria, Ohio).

A little later, Denissa Sly (Northmont/Englewood, Ohio) hit a 3-pointer from the left wing, followed by back-to-back jumpers from Kaylah Ivey (Westerville South/Westerville, Ohio) as Owens took a 15-6 lead.

Schoolcraft's Phoenix Douthat made a pair of free throws to pull her team within five with a minute left in the first quarter, but Kamryn Troike (St. Wendelin/Fostoria, Ohio) and Reese hit a pair of jumpers in the final minute to give Owens a 24-15.

Following Brianna Possorek's 3-pointer to open the second quarter, Owens went on a 15-0 run to open up a 39-18 lead. Sly had the other two points on a pair of free throws.

Pennington added four points in the final minute of the half to give Owens a 46-26 lead.

Owens then opened the second half on a 12-0 run over the first 4:22. Essence Cowan (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) had seven points during the run, while Reese chipped in four. Douthat ended the run with a layup, but Haili Mossing (Evergreen/Metamora, Ohio) picked up her first basket of the game before Ivey hit a free throw and Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) hit a jumper before the quarter was over.

Pennington opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back layups to give Owens a 70-34 lead. Haley Pickard (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio) added seven points following that. Cowan added a 3-pointer off a Pickard assist before Bethea scored on a layup for the team's final basket.

Reese produced a game-high 19 points and finished 8-for-14 from the field. She added eight rebounds, one steal and one block. Pennington finished second on the team in scoring with 12 points, and she added four assists and four steals, both of which tied for the team-high.

Bethea added 11 points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a block off the bench. She went 5-for-8 from the field. Cowan pushed her streak of double digit scoring games to open the season to seven as she had 10 points and four steals.
