Toledo, Ohio---Courizma Williams (Hughes/Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) combined for 37 points as the No. 3 Owens Community College women's basketball team produced an 84-54 win over Jackson College in the Student Health and Activities Center tonight.

With the win, Owens has now won 14 straight to open the season by an average margin of 47 points. They finished the 2016 calendar year with a 33-1 record and also pushed its regular season winning streak to 28 dating back to Jan. 6 of last season - just two short of breaking the program's record held by the 2014-15 team that won its final 29 regular season games.

Owens, which hasn't won a game by fewer than 22 points this year, will be back in action on Jan. 7 at Hocking College beginning at 1 p.m. in a non-conference matchup. They will resume conference play on Jan. 11 at home against Lorain County starting at 5:30 p.m.

Williams, who scored a game-high 19 points off the bench, and Reese, who added 18 points, finished a combined 12-for-22 from the field and 10-for-12 from the foul line. Williams added six rebounds, while Reese had eight rebounds and two steals.

Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished third on the team in scoring with 12, while adding six steals, four rebounds and two blocks. She has now scored in double figures in 10 straight games, and she recorded six steals for the fifth time in the past six games. On top of that, she is now just 20 steals away from becoming the program's all-time career leader in that category.

Sybil Roseboro (Elyria/Elyria, Ohio) just missed a double-double while becoming the fourth and final player in double figures. She finished with 10 points, a season-high nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive glass, which is also a new season-high for the sophomore guard.

Owens held a 54-33 advantage on the glass as all five starters, along with two bench players, picked up at least five rebounds apiece. Essence Cowan (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) and Brenda Pennington (Bishop Noll/Hammond, Ind.) combined for 17 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, while Haili Mossing (Evergreen/Metamora, Ohio) had five points and six rebounds to produce her sixth straight game with at least five rebounds.

Owens jumped out to a 9-0 lead as Reese scored four points and four different players reached the scoring column during the run. Jackson cut its deficit to four on five occassions in the first quarter, but Roseboro hit a 3-pointer and Pennington went coast-to-coast for a layup in the final 32 seconds to give Owens a 22-13 lead.

Williams made a pair of free throws and Cowan hit a 3-pointer to open the second quarter, which also closed a 10-0 run by Owens, which also scored on its next three possessions to push the lead to 19 with 7:36 left in the half.

Nearly two minutes later, Bethea swiped a pass and went the distance for a layup to make it 38-17. At that point, Jackson went on an 8-0 run that featured a pair of Sydney Brown 3-pointers, but Williams scored eight points down the stretch in the half as Owens took a 48-28 lead into the locker room.

Jackson's Zoe Glass made a pair of free throws with 3:10 left in the third to keep the deficit at 20 before Owens went on a 9-0 run that was featured points from four different players and was capped by a 3-pointer from Williams.

Roseboro's two free throws with two seconds left in the quarter gave Owens its first 30 point lead. Then, in the fourth, Jackson got as close as 25, while Owens led by as many as 34.

Jackson, which fell to 1-2 all-time against Owens, was led by Kristin Montecinos, who had 12 points. Kassidy Blough added 10 points and a team-high six assists. They committed 24 turnovers as a team, which led to 29 points going the other way for Owens.

Notes

Reese pushed her career scoring total up to 668, which allowed her to tie Becky Knannlein (668 points, 1994-96) for 23rd on the career scoring list. She passed Sparkle Williams (654 points, 2000-02), Brittany Darling (654 points, 2008-10) and Tia Simms (659 points, 2005-07) tonight. She now needs just 21 points to move into the top 20 and 30 more points to pass her mother, Janice Butzin (697 points, 1993-95), who is 18th all-time.

Williams and Bethea, meanwhile, are now both just 40 points shy of 500 in their careers. Only 41 players in program have reached that mark, including Reese. Williams is now up to 9.9 points per game this year, while Pennington and Kaylah Ivey (Westerville South/Westerville, Ohio) are both at 9.1 per contest.
