Pennington's Big Week Leads To OCCAC Player of the Week Award

Toledo, Ohio---Brenda Pennington (Bishop Noll/Hammond, Ind.), a freshman guard for the No. 2 Owens Community College women's basketball team, has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Division II player of the week.

Pennington helped keep Owens undefeated at 21-0 overall and 8-0 in OCCAC play by averaging 16 points, six rebounds, 7.5 assists and three steals in a pair of wins over Lakeland Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

In her team's 91-30 win over Lakeland last Wednesday, Pennington shot 6-for-10 from the field and finished with 12 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals. Then, in the team's 76-55 win over Cincinnati State, she shot 7-for-15 from the field for 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. She had 18 of her 20 points in the second half to hold off a Cincinnati State rally.

Pennington is now averaging 10.1 points, five assists, four rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for Owens. In conference play, she is avearging 11.5 points, 7.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. She leads the conference in assists per game.

Owens will be back in action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Cuyahoga Community College on the road.

Pennington is the fourth player of the Owens women's basketball team to win player of the week recognition this year. She joins Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.), who won on Dec. 4 and Jan. 1, Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio), who won on Nov. 14 and Kaylah Ivey (Westerville South/Westerville, Ohio), who won on Nov. 21.
