Ivey Captures OCCAC's Top Weekly Honor For Second Time This Season

Toledo, Ohio---Kaylah Ivey (Westerville South/Westerville, Ohio), a freshman center for the No. 2 Owens Community College women's basketball team, has powered her way to another Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week award.

Ivey, who averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and 1.5 assists over two games last week, was named the OCCAC Division II player of the week for the second time this year. She also won on Nov. 21.

The OCCAC announced the award yesterday afternoon.

In a 102-31 win over Lakeland Community College last Wednesday, Ivey produced 14 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. She finished 7-for-11 from the field.

Then, in a 106-17 win over Clark State Community College this past Saturday, Ivey helped Owens break a school record for fewest points allowed in a game and finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and one assist. She shot 4-for-4 from the field and 6-for-7 from the foul line in the game. 

She did all that in just 38 minutes of action.

Ivey, who now has eight double-doubles this year and 13 games with double digit rebounds, is averaging 9.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 steals per game overall. In OCCAC play, she is averaging 9.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.1 steals and one assist per game.

Owens (29-0 overall, 15-0 in the OCCAC) will close out its regular season with a home matchup against rival Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (24-5, 13-2 OCCAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC). 

Owens, which has already clinched its fifth straight outright OCCAC championship, will be looking for the first perfect regular season in Owens athletics history on Saturday.

NOTES

Ivey's award represents the sixth time this season a player from Owens has won the conference's top individual weekly award. The previous winners were Brenda Pennington (Bishop Noll/Hammond, Ind.) on Jan. 29, Ariel Bethea (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) on Jan. 1 and Dec. 4, Ivey on Nov. 21 and Jeryn Reese (Mansfield/Mansfield, Ohio) on Nov. 14.
