Owens Women's Basketball to Hold Open Tryouts On Monday October 15

Toledo, OH -- On October 15, the Owens Women's Basketball Program will be holding open tryouts for any woman interested in playing for the Express during the 2018-2019 season. The tryouts will be held in gym at the Student Health and Activities Center from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

The Express are coming off of a 26-6 season that saw them win the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference title and a District I title. The team competed in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament as well where they reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. 

Owens is coached by stephen Perry, who will be entering his first season at the helm of the program, but his 12th overall with the Express. Since he was hired, the team has recorded a 295-66 record - including a 253-44 record over the last nine years. During his tenure, Owens has compiled 41 All-OCCAC players, 15 All-Region XII players, nine NJCAA Academic All-Americans, nine WBCA All-Americans and four NJCAA All-Americans.

In addition to that, the program has sent 25 players to four-year schools during his tenure, including Jeryn Reese (NCAA D-I La Salle University) and Sybil Roseboro (NAIA Indiana University East) this past year). He has also captured seven OCCAC championships and three district championships. 

Shareese McBrayer is in her first season as the lead assistant at Owens. She has an extensive basketball resume as both a player and coach. McBrayer was a graduate assistant at the Universtiy of Detroit Mercy, as well as, an assistant at Moberly College. She has also been an assistant coach at Waite High School and Start High School in Toledo. During her playing career, she was a standout basketball player at the University of Cincinnati and at Trinity Valley CC.
