Five In Double Figures As Express Throttle Lorain

Toledo, OH -- After an opening season win, the Owens Women's Basketball team had suffered through three straight single digit losses coming into today's game against Lorain. The Express used the strength of a balanced scoring attack to win their second game of the season, 100-47 over the Commodores.

In just her second game for the Express, Shyah Wheeler led all scorers with 24 points on the afternoon. Wheeler, who had been playing for Owens's Volleyball program till last weekend, got her first start of the season. She also had seven rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocks. 

Moreina Moore wreaked havoc in the Commodore backcourt, garnering six steals in the game. She also finished with 18 points and six caroms in the contest. Fellow freshman, Tori Kopp, was an efficient 5-8 from the floor for 17 points. She had six rebounds in the ball game. 

Whitney Thames had a team high eleven rebounds in the game, five of which were on the offensive glass. She also had 15 points and five steals. The final player in double figures was sophomore, Taylor Works. Works found herself in early foul trouble, but she still finished with a dozen points.

Owens shot above 50% (36-71) for the game from the floor. They were also 81.5% from the charity stripe in the game. The Express also forced 10 turnovers on defense. 

The Express are now 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. 

Owens will be in action again on Sunday afternoon to take on Rock Valley at home. Tip off from the SHAC is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Rock Valley is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA Top 10 poll.
