Express Take Down #2 Rock Valley, 80-65

Toledo, OH -- After a 53 point win on Saturday, the Owens Women's basketball team hit the hardwood again on Sunday afternoon against the No. 2 ranked Rock Valley Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles were national runner-up a year ago. 

The Express would jump out to an early lead at 20-14 after the first quarter. Rock Valley would climb back into the game before halftime thought, outscoring the Express 27-22 in the second quarter. Owens would lead the Golden Eagles 41-40 at the break.

Owens would push the lead back up to six points by the end of third quarter, before outscoring Rock Valley by nine point sin the fourth quarter. The 14 point second half swing allowed the Express to win by their 15 point margin of victory. 

For the game, the Express would shoot 49.3% (34-69) from the floor. The Express defense would hold the Golden Eagles to just 33.8% from the field. 

The Express would again put four players in double figures on the afternoon. For the second game in a row, Shyah Wheeler led all scorers with 19 points. Despite being in foul trouble throughout most of the afternoon, she was an efficient 9-15 from the floor. She also had four steals. 

Owens also had two players with 16 points in Moreina Moore and Taylor Works. Moore would also finish with three assists and three steals as well. Works had a more robust stat line to go along with her 16 points. She tied for the team lead in assists with Tori Kopp at seven and she also grabbed eight rebounds during the game. 

Whitney Thames got hot from the wing in the second half as well. Thames had 13 total points for the game, scoring 12 in the games final two periods. She also had a team high nine rebounds on the afternoon. 

Owens is now back to .500 on the young season at 3-3 after the win. Rock Valley falls to 4-2 on the year. 

The Express will play their last game before Thanksgiving on Tuesday at Kellogg at 5:30 on the road. Owens will next be at home on Wednesday Novemeber 28 against Cuyahoga.
