Toledo, OH -- On a day meant for the Owens Women's Basketball team's only sophomore, Taylor Works showed why she has made such an impact in her short time in an Express uniform. The sophomore had 36 points to help the Express to a 111-32 victory over Hocking College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Express were dominant from the opening tip against the Hawks. Owens began the game on a 25-0 run before Hocking scored their first basket with just ten seconds remaining in the first quarter. Owens would outscore the Hawks 28-9 in the second quarter as well. Owens would head to break up 53-11. Works and Whitney Thames each had 16 points at halftime to lead all scorers, while Shyah Wheeler had 10 points at the midway point. 

The Express would not let up in the third. Owens would start the quarter on a 14-0 run that was capped off by a pair of Works layups with 6:32 to play in the third. The Express would finish with their best offensive quarter of the day, outscoring Hocking 30-9 in the period. 

The fourth was the most competitive quarter of the contest, with Owens outscoring Hocking 28-12. The point total would give the Express a 79 point win over the Hawks.

Four of the Express's players finished with 20 or more points. Works, as stated earlier, led all scorers with 36 points on 16-30 shooting from the field. Her 36 points tie her for second for most points scored in a game. She ranks behind Da'Vina Shelton, who scored 40 points last year in a game against Hocking on February 10, 2018. She is tied with Amy Amstutz, who scored 36 points in a game against Clark State on February 10, 1999. Works also finished with eight rebounds, five assists. and four steals for the game. 

Shyah Wheeler had her best game in an Express uniform on Saturday too. The Elida native had 28 points on a very efficient 13-17 shooting. She also garnered a double-double, grabbing a game high 18 rebounds. Her outing on Saturday is her fourth double-double of the season. She also finished with five assists and five steals. 

Whitney Thames had another double-double as well on Saturday. The freshman scored 20 points and grabbed 15 caroms. It was her fifth double-double this season. Fellow freshman, Moreina Moore, finished with 20 points as well. She also had six rebounds and six assists on the afternoon.

Owens shot 58.1% (50-86) from the floor for the ball game. Owens also had a whopping 88 of their 111 points scored in the paint and they also outscored Hocking 38-0 on the fast break during the contest. The Express also finished with 16 total steals an forced 21 turnovers by the Hawks too. 

Hocking would shoot just 21.4% (12-56) for the game. 

Owens now moves to 19-8 overall and 12-2 in the OCCAC. The Hawks fell to 1-18 overall and they remain winless in the conference at 0-13. 

The Express will next be in action this coming Wednesday against Edison. The Chargers are 22-4 overall and 9-3 in the OCCAC. They will be looking to avenge their earlier season loss to the Express from back on January 23, when Owens won 84-64. It will also be the final regular season home game for the Express as well. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 at the SHAC.
