Toledo, OH -- Taylor Works may have been the lone sophomore on this past season's Owens Women's Basketball team, but even though her time on the court with the Express is complete, her basketball career will continue next season. Works made it official on Wednesday, signing with Edinboro University on Tuesday evening.
Works led the Express in scoring with 17.4 points per game and she led the team in assists at 4.6 a contest. She tied the record for second most points in a game against Hocking this season with 36 points back on February 16. Her efforts during the Division III National Tournament earned her a place on the First Team All-Tournament team as well. Works averaged 16.7 point per game while shooting 42% from the field for the tournament. She also averaged six rebounds and nearly five assists during the Express's three tournament games.
Works will be joining an Edinboro team that finished 20-9 overall and 15-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference a year ago. The Fighting Scots qualified for the Atlantic Regional in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Edinboro is coached by Callie Wheeler, who will be entering her second season at the helm of the program.
Owens women's head coach Stephen Perry said, "We are very proud of Taylor! She has worked very hard for this opportunity. Taylor was very important to our success this past season. She did everything we asked of her. We can't wait to see what she does at Edinboro!"
About the 2018-19 Owens Women's Basketball season
The Express finished with an overall record of 25-9 and finished National Runner Up for Division III at the NJCAA National Tournament. The National Runner Up finish is the highest place the program has ever placed in its history. The previous high was third place during the 2014-15 season.
Owens also won its seventh straight conference title, and in the process, the team became the first Division III school to either share or win an OCCAC championship. The team win the Regional XII Championship for the second year in a row, They also won the District B Championship over Rock Valley, who were the National Runner Up a year ago to Hostos.
Taylor Works finished the season as the team's leading scorer with 17.4 points per game and the team leader in assists. Moreina Moore and Shyah Wheeler each averaged 17 points per game this season as well. Whitney Thames averaged a double-double for the year with 10.6 ppg and 11.1 rebounds per game. She was the team leader in rebounds per contest.
