Owens Cruises to First Victory of the Season Over Bryant & Stratton

Toledo, OH -- After a slow start to the 2019-20 season, the Owens Women's Basketball team had every player score in double figures en route to a 101-49 victory of the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats on Wednesday night. 

Leading 10-8 in the first quarter, the Express would go on a 16-6 run to close out the game's opening frame up 26-14. Owens would get red hot shooting the ball in the second quarter. The team would shoot 63.6% from the floor and a scorching 77.8% from beyond the arc during the second. The Express would head to the locker room up 64-25 at halftime. 

With a sizeable lead, Owens would build upon it in the third, outscoring the Bobcats 17-12 in the third. The team would score 20 more points in the fourth to Bryant & Stratton's 12 to take the 52 point victory.

Owens was led in scoring by freshman Elisha Quinn, who poured in 17 points to lead all scorers in the game. The Sylvania, OH native shot 4-10 from the floor and was a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe. Quinn also had three rebounds and three assists. 

Fellow freshman Hannah Owens, who started 6-6 from the floor, finished with 15 points. All of Owens's scoring was done in the first half. She finished 6-8 shooting and was a perfect 3-3 from three point range. 

Sophomore Shyah Wheeler finished with a double-double in the ball game. She finished with 14 points on 6-10 shooting and a game high 17 rebounds. She finished two assists shy of a triple-double with eight. 

For the game, the Express shot 43% from the floor and they forced 20 turnovers in the game. The Bobcats were led in scoring by Aliyah Mullins with 11 and Jalencia Benz with 10 points. 

The Express are now 1-8 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. They will be in action again this Saturday afternoon when they welcome in Mercyhurst NE. Tip off is scheduled for 1 PM at the SHAC.
