Express Dominates ONU Club Team

Ada, OH---After losing to undefeated Schoolcraft College on Wednesday, the Owens Express women's soccer team rebounded to defeat Ohio Northern University's club team 6-1 on Sunday.

Alyvia Lieber (Maumee/Maumee, Ohio) opened the scoring for the Express in the first half as she knocked in a crossing shot by Kendra Eitniear (Swanton/Swanton, Ohio). A short time later, Eitniear added a goal of her own, unassisted to put Owens up 2-0. Toward the end of the first half, Marissa Szabo (Southview/Sylvania, Ohio) put the Express up 3-0 with a goal on an assist from Lieber.

In the second half, Jaime Sesock (Holly/Davisburg, Mich.) scored on an assist from Haley Gasser (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) to put Owens up 4-0. Ohio Northern Club then scored its lone goal of the match to cut the lead to three. However, the Express answered back less than a minute later on an unassisted goal from Gasser.

Szabo capped off the scoring for the Express with a goal on an assist from Sara Ruiz (Swanton/Holland, Ohio). All in all, Lieber had one goal and one assist, Eitniear had one goal and one assist, Szabo had two goals, Sesock had one goal, Gasser had one goal and one assist, and Ruiz had one assist.

Shara Williams (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) started in goal for the Express and stopped two shots on goal.

The Express are now 7-4 and will take on Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich., on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
