Cincinnati, OH---The Owens Express women's soccer team came back from a late 1-0 first half deficit to defeat Cincinnati State 3-2 and capture the program's first win over a ranked opponent on Saturday.
Haley Gasser (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) sparked the comeback as she scored with 11:33 remaining in the first half to tie the game at 1-1.
Moments later, Amanda Roumaya (Whitmer/Toledo, Ohio) scored off a corner kick to give the Express a 2-1 lead heading into the half.
Marissa Szabo (Southview/Sylvania, Ohio) then scored just minutes into the second half to give the Express a 3-1 lead. Midway through that second half, Cincinnati State scored to cut the Express lead to 3-2. However, Owens held strong and captured the upset on the road.
Sarah Weaver (Margaretta/Castalia, Ohio) and Alyvia Lieber (Maumee/Maumee, Ohio) each had one assist against Cincinnati State.
The win moves the Express to 4-1 this year.
