Szabo's Two Goals Helps Express Close Regular Season With 3-1 Win

Millbury, OH---The Owens Express women's soccer team defeated Cincinnati State Community College 3-1 at Lake High School on Sunday behind two goals from Marissa Szabo (Southview/Sylvania, Ohio).

The sophomore put the Express up 1-0 with a goal at the 35:46 mark off a corner kick. Kendra Eitniear (Swanton/Swanton, Ohio) then added one at the 43:01 mark to give Owens a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

Szabo then scored again at the 62:21 mark to put the Express up 3-0 before Ashea Bell scored for Cincinnati State at the 77:31 mark. Shara Williams (Springfield/Holland, Ohio), who started in goal for the Express, then held Cincinnati State scoreless the rest of the match en route to seven saves.

Szabo pushed her season goal total to 25, which is the fourth highest total in a single season for Owens soccer - men and women. Eitniear's goal was her 20th of the season. Szabo and Eitniear are the top two scorers in Region XII.

Haley Gasser (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio), Shelby Ramirez (Whitmer/Toledo, Ohio), and Alyvia Lieber (Maumee/Maumee, Ohio) each added an assist on Sunday.

The Express finish the regular season at 12-7 overall and 5-5 in Region XII. They earned the No. 4 seed in the Region XII playoffs and will battle No. 1 seed Schoolcraft College Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. in the semifinals. The match will be held at Delta College in University Center, Mich.
