Groll, Express Women Survive Battle From Indiana Tech, Win 3-1

Toledo, OH---Jessica Grindle's game-winner in the 78th minute led the Express women to a 3-1 win over Indiana Tech JV today.

Indiana Tech JV, who brought several varsity players along with them today, scored in the game's 14th minute when Manuela Cabal's defender fell, allowing Cabal a free path to the goal.

They nearly took the lead into the break, but Abby Groll scored with eight seconds left in the half on a cross from Jessica Grindle to tie it up.

Grindle's game-winner came on a left-to-right side cross from Taylor Avers. Grindle and Groll actually collided on the play, and Grindle put the ball in.

Haley Kreger added an insurance goal just over a minute later (78:53) on an assist from Haley Gasser.

Erika Brinkman went the distance in goal for the Express, while making one save. Indiana Tech's Shelby Heller, who made several outstanding saves in one-on-one situations today, finished with 13 saves overall.

Notes

The Express won their 10th straight game today and are now 12-2 overall this year. They will look for No. 11 in a home match against Jackson College on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. The Jets handed the Express their first loss earlier this year.

Grindle now has a team-high 17 goals and five assists this year, while Groll picked up her third goal. Kreger's goal was her fifth of the season, the assist from Avers was her first assist of the season and Gasser's assist was her seventh this year.
