3-2 Win Over Muskegon Propels Owens Women To No. 3 Seed In Region XII Tourney

Toledo, Ohio---Catie Phalen (Lake/Millbury, Ohio) scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in regulation to give the Owens Community College women's soccer team a 3-2 win over Muskegon Community College at home today.

With the win, Owens clinches the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region XII tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they will take on No. 2 seed Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in the semifinals.

In today's game, Muskegon led 1-0 at halftime via a goal from Aliza Olsen in the 44th minute.

In the second half, Jordyn Wright (Riverdale/Forest, Ohio) tied the game up just 2:46 into the frame off a pass from Emily Ginley (Huddersfield New College/Halifax, United Kingdom).

Muskegon responded with a goal in the 49th minute, but Wright scored again at the 73:31 mark off a pass from Phalen.

Following that, Wright delivered a ball to Phalen at the 85:04 mark for the game-winner.

The goal and assist for Phalen marked the first points of her freshman season. Wright now has 12 goals and eight assists this year, along with 19 goals and 18 assists in her career.

Chelsie Randolph (Start/Toledo, Ohio) made five saves in goal for Owens.

Owens will close its regular season at 1 p.m. tomorrow against Mercyhurst North East at 1 p.m.

Notes

Owens (9-8 overall, 9-5 Region XII) will take on Cincinnati State Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in a Region XII semifinal matchup. The tournament is being held at the Wyoming Rec Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Muskegon fell to 9-6 overall and 8-6 in Region XII play with the loss.
