Eastwood's Welker Inks With Owens Women's Soccer, Becomes First Member Of Recruiting Class

Toledo, Ohio---Megan Welker, a 5-2 defender from Eastwood High School in Pemberville, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Owens Community College next year.

With the addition of Welker, Owens head womens' soccer coach Kenny Hewitt has officially kicked off his 2016-17 recruiting class.

"Megan is everything you want in a student-athlete," Hewitt said. "She's a good, athletic soccer player who is versatile across the defense. She is a smart girl who works just as hard off the field as she does on it. Her personality will fit in well at Owens."

While at Eastwood, Welker was a two-time First Team and one-time Honorable Mention All-Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC) selection, as well as a two-time Honorable Mention All-District honoree under the tutela

Academically, she is a 4.0 GPA honor roll student. 

"I am very excited for the opportunity to play for Coach Hewitt and to be a part of the team," Welker said. "I look forward to playing this fall and helping the team."

The Owens women's soccer team advanced to the Region XII semifinals last season before falling to Cincinnati State. They are 23-15-2 in two seasons under head coach Kenny Hewitt, who led the team to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Tournament appearance in his first year.
