Mary Whisler guided the Owens women's soccer team from 2011-13. She became the first head coach in the program's history in June 2011 before her departure in March of 2014 to become an assistant coach at Academy of Art University, an NCAA Division II school in California.

In 2013, Whisler led the program to its finest year and was named the Region XII Coach of the Year. Her team finished 17-2-2 (a school record for wins), won a school record 15 straight games, captured the program's first Region XII tournament championship and made the program's first NJCAA D-I National Tournament appearance.

In the national tournament, the team battled to 1-1 ties against No. 4 Darton State College and No. 5 Butler Community College. In the game against Darton State, the Express defense held one of the nation's leading scorers (Lyana Perez, 38 goals) to just one shot on goal. In the game against Butler, the Express defense held Butler without a shot on goal in the first half, which was the first time Butler had that happen to them all year. In fact, the Express held Butler's Morgan Foster, the nation's leader in goals scored (43), without a goal.

Overall, in the national tournament, the Express advanced to the NJCAA's first ever one-day tiebreaker scenario in their pool with Darton State and Butler. Their season ended with a 0-0 tie against Darton State, where Darton State advanced on penalty kicks.

Following the season, two of Whisler's student-athletes (Jill Burkholder, First Team and Jessica Grindle, Second Team) earned NSCAA All-American honors. Additionally, three players earned NSCAA and NJCAA All-Region (Burkholder, Grindle and Marissa Ramirez).

In 2012, Whisler led the Express to a 13-2-3 record overall, including a 10-0-2 record in Region XII play, which helped them earn the #1 seed in the Region XII postseason tournament. Their season ended with a 1-0 loss to Muskegon CC in the Region XII semifinals.

Following the season, four of her players earned All-Region XII honors including First Team recipients Kendra Eitniear and Burkholder, and Second Team recipients, Ramirez and Drew Plummer.

Whisler led the team to a 12-8 record and an appearance in the Region XII tournament semifinals in 2011.

In her three years, Whisler recorded a 42-12-5 record as head coach, which included three appearances in the Region XII postseason tournament, one Region XII regular season championship, one Region XII tournament championship and one NJCAA D-I National Tournament appearance. She produced five student-athletes on the NJCAA All-Region XII First Team, five student-athletes on the NJCAA All-Region XII Second Team, three student-athletes on the NSCAA All-Central Region team, two NSCAA All-American student-athletes and one NJCAA All-American.

Academically, nine of Whisler's players combined made the All-OCCAC Academic Team in 2012-13 and 2013-14. She also sent five players to four-year schools/universities (Jill Burkholder to University of Saint Francis, Elizabeth Theaker to MidAmerica Nazarene University, Drew Plummer to Tiffin University, Marissa Ramirez to Academy of Art University and Erika Brinkman to Purdue University Calumet).

Whisler previously served as the assistant coach for women's soccer at the University of Findlay from 2009-11. During her tenure at the University of Findlay, she helped lead the program to an overall 14-18-5 record. Whisler's responsibilities also included recruiting, training and assessing talent.

Additionally, she served as coach to two U-11 Pacesetter Soccer Club teams as of March 2013 and previously coached for Findlay Soccer Club, as well as, the U-16 Assistant Coach for the Fort Wayne Sport Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. Whisler also spent her summers working as a soccer camp staff coach at the University of Notre Dame.

Whisler was a three-time First Team Mid-Central College Conference selection during her intercollegiate women's soccer career (2005-08) at the University of Saint Francis. She also earned NAIA Honorable Mention Athletic All-American and Scholar-Athlete All-American honors.
