No. 15 Express Nearly Upsets No. 3 Kishwaukee, Defeats Illinois Central On Final Day Of Owens Invitational

Toledo, OH---The No. 15 Express women's volleyball team split their two matches on the final day of the Owens Invitational Sunday.

In their first match, they nearly took down No. 3 Kishwaukee College before falling in five sets. Owens started sluggish in the first set before battling back. Kishwaukee then took 5-0 and 7-1 leads in the final set before winning by the score 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-10.

Owens was previously 3-0 in five set matches this year.

Following that, the Express defeated Illinois Central in four sets, 25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 25-17. In the second game of the match, the Express let a late lead slip away, but easily captured the other three sets.

The Express finished the Owens Invitational with a 5-2 record, and they pushed their season record to 10-3 overall.

Their next action is Sept. 5 against Lorain County Community College, which marks the beginning of OCCAC play. It also signals the beginning of an eight match OCCAC stretch before heading to the Grand Rapids Invitational on Sept. 29-30.
