Wirick, Thomas Help Express Volleyball Stuff Cincinnati State In Straight Sets

Toledo, OH---Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, OH) and Jazmine Thomas (Lima Senior/Lima, OH) helped the Express volleyball team defeat Cincinnati State in straight sets tonight.

The duo combined for 22 kills (11 each), while Wirick added a team-high 28 assists and Thomas added a team-high five blocks. Wirick chipped in for six digs, as well.

The Express controlled the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-15 before winning a thrilling third set 32-30. In that third set, the Express had led 22-18 before Cincinnati State rattled off five straight to take the lead before it became back-and-forth until the end.

Bailey Dangler (Kalida/Kalida, OH) and Tiffani Hobbs (Central Catholic/Toledo, OH) added five kills each for the Express, while Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, MI) had 17 assists.

As a team, the Express had six kills, led by Lisa Urbanski (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, OH) with two. Urbanski also led the Express in digs with 24, while Kennedy Geyman (Jefferson/Monroe, MI) added 13.

The Express are now 19-18 overall this year. They have won three straight and eight out of their last ten.

Tonight's match was the final regular season home match for the Express, who will travel to face No. 15 Columbus State Community College (30-4 overall, 10-0 OCCAC) tomorrow at 12 p.m.

Notes

Urbanski now has 738 digs this year. With her total from last year, she now has 1,695 career digs. That puts her 44 digs away from moving past Ashley Hill and into second place in career digs.

Thomas now has 168 digs this year and 352 career digs, which gives her the sixth most career blocks in program history. She is 24 blocks away from passing Brittney Bradner for fifth place.

Wirick eclipsed 700 assists on the season tonight and now sits at 711. She eclipsed 200 kills on the season (202) and is approaching 300 digs (292). With her one block tonight, she has also totaled 30 blocks.

Tonight's match was a Halloween themed event as student-athletes from both teams wore face paint, and several spectators wore Halloween costumes.
