Express Volleyball Sees Season End in Region XII Tournament

Grand Rapids, Mich.---The Express volleyball team (22-21) lost two of three matches yesterday in the Region XII tournament as their season came to an end.

In their first match, a 16-25, 23-25, 11-25 loss to No. 4 Oakland Community College in the winner's bracket semifinals, Kenzie Kleinhenz (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) led the Express with eight kills. Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) led the way in assists with 13.

Lisa Urbanski (Notre Dame Academy/Toledo, Ohio) and Wirick each had a team-high 14 digs, while Kayla Siefker (Kalida/Kalida, Ohio) had a team-high three blocks.

The Express rebounded with a 25-16, 11-25, 25-23, 25-16 win over Mott Community College in their second match. Jazmine Thomas (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) led the team with 14 kills, while Jessica Cooper (Brandywine/Niles, Mich.) had a team-high 34 assists. 

Urbanski had a team-high 20 digs, and Thomas had a team-high seven blocks.

Cooper added four aces, which led the team.

St. Clair County Community College then knocked the Express out of the tournament in the loser's bracket semifinals with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 win.

The Express was led in kills by Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Mich.), who had 10, while Kleinhenz added nine. Cooper had a team-high 31 assists, while Urbanski (17) and Cooper (11) led the way in digs.

Thomas and Kleinhenz each had a team-high four blocks, while Dominique Yates (Bowsher/Toledo, Ohio) had two aces.
