Annual Alumni Volleyball Match Draws Over 20 Former Players

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College women's volleyball program hosted its annual alumni scrimmage this past Sunday.

Put together by head coach Sonny Lewis, the event attracted over 20 former Owens volleyball players.

Those players included: Angie Tolland (2002-03), Ashley Hill (2003-04), Ashlee Kwiatkowski (2003-04), Dani Rego (2003-04), Risa Smith (2003-04), Brianne Sawyer (2003-04), Elisha Milks (2005-06), Stephanie Champine (2006-07), Stacia Fritz (2007), Brittney Bradner (2007-08), Kristen Gyori (2007-08), Mallory Imbery (2007-08), Ja'Lisa Graham (2008-09), Amanda Schuster (2009-10), Shelby Schuster (2009-10), Brittany Egbert (2010-11), Brandi Schimming (2011-12), Molly Hilfinger (2011-12), Aricka LaVoy (2013-14), Ciarra Wirick (2013-14), Amanda Drew (2008-09) and Chae Small (2008).

In 26 years at Owens (1976-80, 1994-present), the volleyball program has compiled a 704-323 record, including a 216-43 mark over the past 21 years in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). In those 21 years, Owens has captured 13 OCCAC championship and eight Region XII championships. Those eight Region XII championships have led to five top five finishes in the nation since 1998.

Head coach Sonny Lewis, entering his 15th season this upcoming fall, has compiled a 504-177 record since 2001. He has led the program to 11 OCCAC championships and three Region XII championships. He also led the program to a fifth place finish nationally in 2003 and a third place finish nationally in 2012. 

Last year's team finished 34-11 overall and 12-2 (2nd Place) in OCCAC play. The team advanced to the loser's bracket finals of the Region XII tournament before falling to eventual national semifinalist Columbus State.
