Mikesell, No. 9 @OwensExpress Volleyball Dominates Edison In Straight Sets

Toledo, Ohio---Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) produced a team-high 11 digs, while adding three kills in four chances to help lead the No. 9 Owens Community College women's volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-9, 25-12 win over Edison Community College at home this afternoon.

"We're really pleased with how we played today," said Owens assistant volleyball coach Denny Caldwell. "Not just the hitting, but the little things."

One day after setting a new season-high for team hitting percentage, Owens set another standard by producing 35 kills with only eight errors over 70 chances for a .386 hitting percentage.

Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) led the way with 11 kills and a .625 percentage, while Mikesell and Christine Tylutki (Monroe/Monroe, Mich.) each had three kills and a .500 percentage. Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) also had eight kills, only one error and a .412 percentage.

Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) led the team in assists with 12, while her and Abigail Hesselschwardt (Otsego/Grand Rapids, Ohio) each had a team-high three aces. As a team, Owens produced 11 aces against the Edison defense.

Aside from Mikesell's 11 digs, Brooke Gyori (Clay/Oregon, Ohio) and Tylutki produced seven and six, respectively, as well.

Reigelsperger was once again a dominant force at the net en route to a team-high five blocks (three solo). Tylutki and Annie Lindeman (Ottoville/Ottoville, Ohio) each also had three.

Owens is now 9-3 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play. They will travel to Cuyahoga Community College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. conference matchup before returning home next weekend.

Edison falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in OCCAC play. The two teams will meet again Oct. 21 in Piqua, Ohio.
