No. 10 Pasco-Hernando, Catawba Valley No Match For No. 5 Owens Volleyball

Hickory, N.C.---The No. 5 Owens Community College women's volleyball team continued its winning streak today with straight set victories over No. 10 Pasco-Hernando State College and Catawba Valley Community College.

With the wins, Owens has now won 11 in a row with the last four and seven of the 11 coming in straight sets. They will face two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I teams tomorrow - Spartansburg Methodist College (15-4) and Monroe College (28-0) - as part of the Catawba Valley Invitational

Match 1: No. 5 Owens d. No. 10 Pasco-Hernando 25-13, 25-15, 25-16

The first match of the day saw Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwter, Ohio) produce a team-high 15 kills, while Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) had eight kills to extend her streak of consecutive matches with eight or more kills to 21.

Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) had a team-high 21 assists, while Christine Tylutki (Monroe/Monroe, Mich.) added 16. The duo had 37 of the team's 39 assists.

Brooke Gyori (Clay/Oregon, Ohio) led the team in aces (3) and digs (19). Smith chipped in two aces, while the team produced eight total. Aside from Gyori, Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) chipped in 13 digs, while Reigelsperger totaled seven.

Reigelsperger had four of the team's five solo blocks.

Owens hit .322 as a team, while holding Pasco-Hernando to .146.

Match 2: No. 5 Owens d. Catawba Valley 26-24, 25-14, 25-18

Owens took down the host school behind a combined 21 kills from Reigelsperger and Hartings, as well as a trio of players with double figure digs.

Hartings (11) and Reigelsperger (10) led the way offensively, while Tylutki added six and Taylor Purcell (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.) had five.

Smith (23) and Tylutki (10) had 33 of the team's 35 assists. 

Gyori (23), Mikesell (18) and Samantha Reer (St. Paul/Norwalk, Ohio) (12) led the team in digs. Tylutki nearly reached double figures with nine, as well.

Reigelsperger had a team-high four blocks (three solo), while Mikesell (two solo), Hartings (two solo) and Purcell (three solo) added three blocks apiece.

Notes

Owens is now 4-3 against ranked teams this year. The losses are to current NJCAA No. 1 Parkland, No. 3 Johnson County and No. 12 Des Moines Area. They've defeated current NJCAA No. 8 McHenry County, No. 10 Pasco-Hernando, No. 14 Kirkwood and No. 17 St. Clair County. Owens also lost to NJCAA Division I No. 3 Indian Hills. Their only other loss is to NJCAA Division I Wallace State, which is currently 25-5 overall.

With their .322 hitting percentage vs Pasco-Hernando, Owens recorded at least a .300 hitting percentage for the tenth time this year.

Owens tied a season-high with 10 solo blocks vs Catawba Valley. They also reached the mark vs Cincinnati State on Sept. 11. It was  the team's 14th match with double digit blocks this year.
