15 Straight! No. 4 Owens Volleyball Clinches Share Of OCCAC Title With Sweep Of Lorain County

Toledo, Ohio---The No. 4 Owens Community College women's volleyball team breezed past Lorain County Community College 25-10, 25-21, 25-11 in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) tonight to clinch at least a share of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) championship.

Owens is now 29-5 overall and 11-0 in OCCAC play, and they have won 15 straight overall. They can clinch the championship outright with a win in any of their final three conference matches. Their first crack will come next Wednesday at Edison Community College beginning at 6 p.m.

MATCH RECAP

Brooke Gyori (Clay/Oregon, Ohio) made several nice defensive plays throughout the match en route to a team-high 19 digs. Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) contributed, too, with 10, while Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) finished with a career-high nine.

For the first time in six matches, Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Mich.) didn't lead the team in assists. She had 17, however, as Christine Tylutki (Monroe/Monroe, Mich.) edged her out with 18. Smith did have a team-high in aces with two.

Offensively, Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) continued her streak of matches with at least 10 kills. The sophomore finished with a team-high 13 with a .524 hitting percentage. Another streak continued, as well, when Hartings totaled eight kills. It was her 26th straight match with at least eight kills.

At the net, Reigelsperger led the way with five blocks (three solo), while Tyanna Smith (Bowling Green/Bowling Green, Ohio) had four (two solo).

NOTES

With her 13 kills tonight, Reigelsperger eclipsed 900 career kills. She entered play tonight third on the program's career kills list and sits at 908 after tonight. 

Hartings is fourth on the career kills list. After eight tonight, she sits at 892.

Gyori now has 642 digs in her freshman year after totaling 19 tonight. She passed Sarah Stamper (633) for ninth on the single season list. Next up is Amanda Drew with 660.
