South Central's Sweeting Becomes Initial Member of 2016-17 Owens Volleyball Recruiting Class

Greenwich, Ohio---Summer Sweeting, a 5-6 setter from South Central High School, signed with the Owens Community College women's volleyball program on Monday to become the first member of next year's recruiting class.

As a senior, Sweeting was named First Team All-Firelands Conference, First Team All-District 6 and Honorable Mention All-Ohio. She surpassed 1,000 career assists and finished with nearly 1,300 in her career, while also being named a JJ Huddle/MaxPrep Player of the Week in early October.

Prior to missing time due to an injury as a junior, Sweeting was also named First Team All-Firelands Conference and Second Team All-District 6 as a sophomore. She was Second Team All-Firelands Conference and Second Team All-District 6 as a freshman. 

Sweeting, the daughter of Don and Sandy Sweeting, is the cousin of former two-time Owens volleyball All-American Brittany Egbert.

Notes

The No. 2 ranked Owens volleyball team is currently 38-4 overall and recently captured Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Region XII District F championships for the second consecutive season. The team has won 14 consecutive matches and earned one of 16 berths in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament in Charleston, W.V. Nov. 17-19.
